Melissa (Melissa officinalis) is known for its purifying and cleansing properties. It is a plant native to the Mediterranean Region and has been popularly referred to as the Bee Plant, the reason being obvious. This is a grassy, lemon scent that is uplifting and can help balance emotions. It has also been known to greatly reduce wounded, hurt feelings and provide a sense of release and emotional closure while strengthening and revitalizing the spirit. Anciently, Melissa was used for nervous disorders and many different ailments dealing with the heart or the emotions. It is said that it was also used to promote fertility. It seems brings out gentle characteristics within people.
Depressed. This property is probably one of the most significant medicinal properties of this oil. It is an effective mood lifter and an antidepressant. It has been found to drive away sadness and inspire joy and hope. That is why it was called the “Elixir of Life” or the “Nectar of Life” all the way back in the 15th Century. Place a small amount in your hands and breathe in the aroma and enjoy.
Stress / Frustration. Apply Melissa oil topically on the temples, forehead, and back of neck during times of feeling under pressure from nervous tension or stress.
Calming. Rub Melissa oil on the feet for a calming effect on the body.
Cold Sores & Fever Blisters. 1 Drop on cold sore, or blister 3 times a day or as needed until it’s gone.
Bronchitis. Dilute 50/50 2-6 drops of Melissa with coconut or olive oil and rub on chest and upper back. You can also, apply a warm compress, or even diffuse.
Mood Swings. Apply 1-2 drops on the chest around the heart area and a drop on each of the inside wrists. Breathe in the scent.
Grief. Put several drops into a diffuser or air purifier. May be directly inhaled as well.
Headaches and Migraines. Add 2 drops Melissa to 1 teaspoon coconut or olive oil and apply to forehead, temples, or neck.
